HBCU Homecoming

I saw a post that said something along the lines of this, “People that didn’t go to an HBCU don’t understand why we go so hard for homecomings”. And I thought that was absolutely true. This year I didn’t attend GHOE (If you don’t know.. that’s greatest homecoming on earth which is A&Ts homecoming), but I did go to some events here in Nashville for Tennessee State Universities homecoming. I took time to think about why I love HBCU homecomings and I came up with 3 main reasons.

Community:

I saw another post that said something like “you have the rest of your life to be a minority so why not go to an HBCU” and it’s so true. It’s nothing like being around people that are most relatable. Naturally people gravitate towards the people that they look most similar to, and HBCU’s display a lot of that black culture.

Events:

If you live in a city like Nashville you get excited for a homecoming like TSU. On a regular weekend there’s just country/pop bars, but during homecoming there’s a lot more events to attend if you want to hear hip hop/R&B music. Even in college it seemed like events were 10x as fun during homecoming. Every homecoming is different but TSU host parties all day and all weekend during homecoming.

Fashion:

Every big event at A&T was a fashion show. Whether it was a rivalry game, a pep rally or just Fried chicken Friday, everybody had their best outfits on. Of course it’s different for every school but I’m speaking for the homecomings that I’ve been to. Homecoming is a time to get your hair done, your nails did and everything did. We set a high expectation on everyone for homecoming and I love seeing the different outfits and different hairstyles. You’ll see the people you least expect with 36 inches of weave LOL. It’s definitely a good time and for me it’s an excuse to spend money on all these things.

What HBCU has the best homecoming and what is the best part about it?

  1. I am really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it抯 rare to see a nice blog like this one today..

  2. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100 certain. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
